VISIT SOUTH KOREA

South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea, is a country in East Asia. It occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea to the north, China across the sea to the west and Japan a short ferry ride to the southeast. South Korea shares one of the world’s most heavily militarized borders with North Korea. It’s equally known for its green, hilly countryside dotted with cherry trees and centuries-old Buddhist temples, plus its coastal fishing villages, sub-tropical islands and high-tech cities such as Seoul, the capital.

South Korea combines an ancient and storied culture with ultra-modern amenities. In South Korea, bustling urban centers, serene pastoral gardens and palaces stand side by side. Visitors find pop-music sing-alongs and folk dancing, martial arts and street festivals, fast food and long-fermented food specialties. There are dozens of reasons to justify a vacation to South Korea.

South Korea is host to neon-saturated cityscapes, ancient architectural marvels and many of enticing formal gardens. Lovers of natural beauty should visit the dramatic volcanic formations at Jeju Island or take a hike in Jiri Mountain National Park. Those who appreciate history will want to stop at sites such as the ancient capital city of Gyeongju, Bulguska Temple or the Changdeokgung Palace in the heart of Seoul. Those who thrive on the sights and sounds of modern urban life can spend their time in Seoul, one of the most densely populated cities on the world.

As you are planning your trip, know that certain times of the year are cheaper to travel than others. Everyone knows flights will be more expensive around a holiday, but there are lots of other factors that determine how much you’ll pay for that flight or hotel. Do your research, play around with dates, and decide how many days you can afford to be there.
