Switzerland, officially is the Swiss Confederation. It is a country situated in the confluence of western, central, and southern Europe. Switzerland is a federal republic composed of 26 cantons, with federal authorities seated in Bern.


Switzerland is a landlocked country bordered by Italy to the south, France to the west, Germany to the north, and Austria and Liechtenstein to the east. While the Alps occupy the greater part of the territory, the Swiss population of approximately 8.5 million is concentrated mostly on the plateau, where the largest cities are located, among them the two global cities and economic centers of Zürich and Geneva.



Switzerland is a mountainous country, home to numerous lakes, villages and the high peaks of the Alps. Its cities contain medieval quarters, with landmarks like capital Bern’s Zytglogge clock tower and Lucerne’s wooden chapel bridge. The country is also known for its ski resorts and hiking trails. Banking and finance are key industries, and Swiss watches and chocolate are world renowned.

Switzerland is the most famous tourist destination and the places that a must visit are Geneva, Lucerne, Zurich, Interlaken, Zermatt. The tourist industry in Switzerland is also very alert and it is always promoting tourism in the country.


As you are planning your trip, know that certain times of the year are cheaper to travel than others. Everyone knows flights will be more expensive around a holiday, but there are lots of other factors that determine how much you’ll pay for that flight or hotel. Do your research, play around with dates, and decide how many days you can afford to be there.
